The Hawaiʻi Aquaculture and Aquaponics Association (HAAA) has worked closely with the State Legislature and State and County governments to provide industry advocacy and support since 1975. The purpose of HAAA is to provide a unified industry voice for legislative issues, networking and fellowship with other aquaculture and aquaponics producers, researchers, and supporter, local and national recognition and support of aquaculture, aquaponics, and business-related issues, and business advantages for commercial members. Mission: foster the development of commercial aquaculture and aquaponics production in Hawaiʻi.
Ron Weidenbach is co-owner and manager of Hawaiʻi Fish Company, Hawaiʻiʻs longest operating commercial fish farm. Ron is a fisheries biologist and a former researcher with the University of Miami, the University of Michigan, and the East-West Center, Honolulu. He has worked as an aquaculture consultant for the World Bank and foreign governments, and for private companies. Ron originally came to Hawaiʻi at the request of the East-West Center and the State to help develop the giant freshwater prawn industry in the 1970s. Ron has over 45 years of aquaculture experience and brings a wealth of knowledge to our community.
