Sashimi with a softer footprint – sustainable feeds for farming marine fish in Hawai`i
Neil Sims, CEO of Ocean Era, will review some of the research developments in marine fish feed at Ocean Era. Research trails have demonstrated the potential to eliminate fishmeal and fish oil from the diet of so-called ʻcarniverous’ kanpachi (seriola rivoliana). Trials with nenue (kyphosus vaigiensis) have also shown that these herbivorous reef fish can perform well on tilapia diets, as well as novel diets of invasive freshwater duckweed. What do we see as the commercial prospects for locally-produced feedstuffs that we might test for nenue diets?
